Lucky Bitches

If you have ever had an obsession with Jackie Collins you will know that Lucky Santangelo is the ballsy character from the “Lucky” series of books that Collin’s began in the early 80s. Lucky and her exploits were the first things that popped into my head when I came across the Lucky Bitches line of jewellery and my youthful obsession returned in full. I remembered the glamour of the 80s, big hair, big shoulder pads, bold statements and hollywood (through Jackie Collin’s eyes). The Lucky Bitches themselves do not disappoint they are bold, glamorous and above all stylish and fun. My obsession and subsequent hot pursuit of the designer has come to fruition and I can now share the story behind the glamour that is the Lucky Bitches from the designer himself Euan McWhirter.

Euan what is your fashion/design background?
Since a young age I’ve loved fashion and accessories especially, I used to make myself accessories out of plastic plant pots. I’ve always had an interest the way people in different cultures adorn themselves. I went on to study Jewellery Design at Central St Martins in London and since designed for some talented UK jewellery designers like Erickson Beamon.

Do you have any preference for materials?
I love working in all sorts of materials, anything brightly coloured. Plastic, Ribbon, glass stones, semi-precious, you name it. The key is putting the right colours and materials together in a design. Sometimes you go with classic colour combinations like black and gold and other times you just go wild.

What influenced your Lucky Bitches collection?
Lucky Bitches (LB) is inspired by the excess of the 80’s and unadulterated glamour. It’s all about having fun with what you wear but having sense of style about it.

What kind of woman wears Lucky Bitches?
LB women are self assured, they know what they want but at the same time don’t take themselves too seriously. Lucky Bitches women know how to let their hair down and party!  Anyone can be a Lucky Bitch really, you just have to believe your incredibly lucky in life!

Will you be participating in London Jewellery Week?
Not this year, hopefully next year. I’ve a few smaller events lined up like Bold Souls in Glasgow and we will be having a proper launch party [for the line] later this year.

What other jewellery designers do you admire?
I love a lot of the french jewellery design houses Dior, Lanvin and Boucheron are amazing they know how it’s done! I also love UK’s Shaun Leane, his fine jewellery is beautiful and edgy.

What is the future for the Lucky Bitches?
The Lucky Bitches collection has had a lot of interest, I’m focusing on expanding the range and strengthening the brand name. We will have an online boutique very soon.
I also plan to expand into other accessories like sunglasses in good time.
